This is another Shetland reel. The title translates simply as ‘who will dance with Wattie?’ I’ve heard it suggested that Wattie was a dancing bear. I’m glad this is not true. The tune is in Tom Anderson’s book, Ringing Strings’ (1983). Anderson says:
‘A traditional reel from the North Mainland of Shetland. Wattie was a seaman who was very fond of dancing. When he was home on leave and attending a local dance his partners had to work very hard to keep pace with him, and the word would go around “Who’ll dance with Wattie now?”’
